Step by step instructions on how to set up your student/employee email on your mobile device

Welcome! In this guide we will show you step by step how to set up your mobile device to receive your student or employee emails while on the go so you will always be informed about what is happening on campus!



For the student email you will need:

What is a POP password and how do I create one?

Before you can access your MyMDC student email via a mail client or mobile device, you will need to create a POP password which you will use to authenticate when configuring your mail client or mobile device.

To create your POP password

  1. Visit https://myact.mymdc.net 
  2. Click Set My Email Account POP Password
  3. Login using your MyMDC username and password
  4. Enter and confirm your POP password


How do I enable IMAP for my student email?

   To enable IMAP for your student email:

  1.  Sign into your student email.
  2. Click Settings at the top of the page.
  3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
  4. Select Enable IMAP Access.
  5. Click Save Changes.

NOTE: Before you can access your student email via IMAP, you will first need to create a POP password.

How do I access my student email using my Android?

You can use the following settings to configure IMAP with many mail clients and mobile devices.

NOTE: Before you can access your student email via IMAP, you will first need to create a POP password and enable IMAP for your student email account.

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - requires SSL: Email address
Username (The email address)
Password (
your POP password)
imap.gmail.com

Use SSL: Yes
Port: 993
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your full student email address (including @mymdc.net)
Email Address: your full student email address (username@mymdc.net)
Password: your POP password



How do I access my student email using my iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad?

Note: Setup instructions below are for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad devices running software version 3.0.
  1. Create a POP password for your student email account.
  2. Enable IMAP from within your student email. 
  3. On your iPhone or iPod touch's home screen, tap Settings
  4. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  5. Tap Add Account...
  6. Tap Other
  7. Tap Add Mail Account
  8. Enter your account information, being sure to use your full student email address.

  9. Tap Save
  10. For Incoming Mail Server:
    • Host Name is 'imap.gmail.com'
    • User Name is your full student email address, including '@mymdc.net'
    • Password is your POP password

  11. For Outgoing Mail Server:
    • Host Name is 'smtp.gmail.com'
    • User Name is your full student email address, including '@mymdc.net
    • Password is your POP password

  12. Tap Save


How do I access my student email using my BlackBerry?

You can use the following settings to configure IMAP with many mail clients and mobile devices.

Employees Guide:


How do I configure my Android device with the college's employee email system? 

Note: These instructions will vary depending on the flavor (version) of your Android device.

  1. Bring up the System Menu
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Accounts and sync
  4. Click Add account
  5. Click Corporate
  6. Enter your full email address, password, and click Next
  7. If prompted with Terms of Service, click OK
  8. Enter the Exchange Server settings as shown below (replacing jdoe with your user name)
  9. Click Next
  10. If prompted with Security warning, click OK
  11. Select your desired Account options, click Next
  12. Enter MDC as the Account Name
  13. Click Done
  14. If you receive a system notification to Activate device, click Activate


How do I configure my iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch with the college's employee email system?

NOTE: These instructions have been verified to work with iOS version 4.3.3.

1. Go to Settings


 

2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars

3. Select Add Account... 

4. Select Microsoft Exchange

5. Enter your Exchange account information:

  • Email: <username@mdc.edu>
  • Domain: MDCC
  • Username: <your username> (do not add @mdc.edu)
  • Password: <your password>
  • Description: MDC

6. Select Next

7. Verify email.mdc.edu as the Server

8. Select Next 

9. Select the information you would like to sync


 

10. Select Save




How do I configure my BlackBerry device with the college's employee email system?

NOTE: Some BlackBerry models require the configuration to be completed on the device rather than through the Portal.
  1. From your computer, visit your carrier's BlackBerry Portal.Log into your BlackBerry account. If you have not created your BlackBerry account, you may create one by clicking on the Create New Account button and following the onscreen instructions.



  2. Enter your MDC email address and password under Set Up An Existing Email Account


  3. Click Next

  4. Select I will provide the settings to add this email account.


  5. Click Next

  6. Select This is my work email account.
  7. Click Next

  8. Select I can access my email account using a Web browser (Outlook Web Access)


  9. Click Next

  10. Enter the following information:
    • Outlook Web Access URL: https://email.mdc.edu
    • User name: <your MDC username>
    • Password: <your MDC password>
    • Email Address: <your MDC email address>
    • Mailbox name: <your MDC username>


  11. Click Next
